Origins and Tradition

The oil mill San Carlo was founded by Carlo Cimino in 1979, but its history began a few decades earlier, when Carlo’s parents decided to purchase an olive grove in the countryside of Marcellinara.

This decision was the result of a combination of needs, sufferings and hopes: the need to feed their children, the suffering of leaving their small home town and the hope for a better future.

The olive trees of Marcellinara, located in the Calabria’s narrowest strip of land, between the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, with its mild temperature and the typical Mediterranean currents, represented a real resource in which to invest with hard work and great passion.

And those centuries-old olive trees, almost as a sign of gratitude for the attention given to them, soon began to produce high quality olives. The harvest and sale of olives increased quickly and the Cimino family’s assets started to grow.

It was in 1979 that, in addition to growing olive trees, Carlo Cimino started producing olive oil in his small oil mill, making an important turning point in the history of his family. A long journey, from the origins to the present day, up to Antonio and Giuliana that are now also involved in the family business and – together with their father – put their passion into the oil mill San Carlo.

The Cimino’s family has understood the importance of producing high quality Italian extra virgin olive oil and for decades has made it as one of its main activities, guided by important values such as sacrifice, love for their lands and continuous improvement of their product. The perfect relationship between tradition and innovation is now the basis of this small Italian excellence and we believe it is fundamental to produce an Italian extra virgin olive oil with extraordinary sensory and quality characteristics.

And among the good things of the earth
I set apart
olive oil,
your ever-flowing peace, your green essence,
your heaped-up treasure
which descends
in streams from the olive tree.
