Oil and Health

Italian extra virgin olive oil is an irreplaceable condiment in Mediterranean cuisine and is considered a true ally of our health:

It protects cells and slows down the ageing process of the skin: it has an important antioxidant effect as it contains substances such as vitamin E, polyphenols, phytosterols, chlorophylls and carotenoids, that counteract the activity of free radicals and slowing down cells ageing

It prevents high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks, thanks to the action of unsaturated acids such as oleic acid

It lowers LDL levels (the 'bad' cholesterol) without affecting HDL levels (the 'good' cholesterol)

It plays an important protective role for the stomach lining

As it improves digestion, it is recommended in the diet of children from weaning onwards, as its balance of polyunsaturated fatty acids is similar to that of breast milk and its intake ensures healthy development of the organism

It stimulates bone mineralisation and promotes calcium absorption through the intake of vitamin D

In pregnant women, it promotes the optimal development of the nervous system of the unborn child

For athletes it provides readily digestible high energy
